About Stainless Steel Rolling Shutter
Stainless steel is specified when something in the environment will destroy a coated curtain: a washdown regime with aggressive cleaning agents, a process atmosphere, or coastal salt. It is the most expensive metal option in the range and it is chosen for a reason, not for appearance alone.

SS304 standard
Curved interlocking SS304 curtain in approximately the 0.9 to 1.2 mm class depending on the profile selected, for food, pharmaceutical, healthcare and premium commercial openings.
SS304 heavy duty
Heavy-duty interlocking SS304 curtain in approximately the 1.2 mm class or as the profile requires, for wider openings and heavier use.
SS316 special / coastal
SS316 curtain for coastal and high-corrosion installations. Thickness is configuration dependent and is confirmed with the profile.

FAQ
Questions we are actually asked
- What thickness is a stainless curtain?
- It depends on the profile. SS304 standard is approximately the 0.9 to 1.2 mm class and the heavy-duty profile is approximately 1.2 mm or as the section requires; SS316 is configuration dependent. We quote thickness against the profile rather than publishing one figure for every stainless shutter.
- When is SS316 actually necessary?
- Coastal installations and chemically aggressive process areas. If the environment is a normal food or pharmaceutical production space, SS304 is usually the correct and more economical specification.
- Should the guides be stainless too?
- On a high-corrosion installation, yes. A stainless curtain running in mild steel guides moves the corrosion problem to the guides rather than solving it.
- What sizes is the Stainless Steel Rolling Shutter available in?
- It is made to the opening rather than supplied in fixed sizes. Send us the clear width and height along with the headroom and side room available, and we will confirm what the configuration supports.
- Can it be motorised, and can an existing shutter be motorised?
- Yes to both, where the curtain and barrel suit it. Motor selection follows curtain weight, opening size, barrel diameter and how often the shutter runs, so it is calculated for the opening rather than taken from a product line.
- What happens during a power failure?
- Every powered shutter is supplied with a manual override, by hand chain, crank or release depending on the configuration. It is part of the specification rather than an accessory.
- What do you need from us to quote?
- Clear opening width and height, the headroom and side room, roughly how many times a day it will be used, whether it is internal or external, and the finish you want. That is usually enough for a configuration and a price.
