Every opening is an energy loss
A chilled or frozen area loses its differential through the door. Open time and seal quality are the whole specification.

Industry
Holding a temperature differential across an opening that never stays shut.
01Industry challenges
A chilled or frozen area loses its differential through the door. Open time and seal quality are the whole specification.
Food areas are hosed and foamed down. Painted steel and open chain drives do not survive that; stainless frames and enclosed gearing do.
Warm humid air meeting a cold surface produces condensation, then ice, then a door that will not seal.
Surfaces have to be wipeable and free of ledges that collect residue — that rules some constructions out entirely.
02Recommended solutions

High Speed Doors
Double-skin insulated rigid panels up to 5,000 × 7,500 mm, opening at approximately 1.2–1.5 m/s under PLC, inverter and encoder control.
2 configurations

Rolling Shutters
Double-wall aluminium, GI or steel slats with an insulating core, in standard, thermal and industrial configurations, for warehouses, food and temperature-controlled areas.
3 configurations

High Speed Doors
Flexible PVC curtain rolling onto a drum above the opening, up to 5,000 × 5,000 mm, opening at 0.8–2.5 m/s under PLC, inverter and encoder control.
3 configurations

Loading Bay
Hydraulic dock levellers with 2000 and 2500 mm platforms, working above and below dock level, on a 14 mm tear plate deck rated from -35 °C to +50 °C.
2 configurations

Loading Bay
Aluminium alloy dock shelters and dock houses rated above force 10 wind with a 10–20 year service life, for heat retention and weather protection.
3 configurations

Fire & Safety
Automatic sliding doors with HPL, painted steel or powder-coated aluminium leaves, lead-lined options and glazed vision panels, for hospital, clean room and cold store openings.

03Engineering considerations
Specify the temperature range on both sides of every opening, not just the cold side.
Decide whether the door is inside the washdown zone; that determines frame and drive selection.
Insulated shutters and rigid panel high speed doors hold a differential that a fabric curtain will not.
Cold store and freezer room doors themselves are not currently a confirmed Standard Automation line — ask us and we will say so plainly.
Plan for the drive to be outside the wet zone wherever the layout allows it.
