Rolling Shutters/Industrial & Wind-Rated Shutters

Windproof / Storm-Resistant Rolling Shutter

Engineered for high-wind and storm-prone environments, to the project wind load.

A windproof rolling shutter closed across a wide vehicle opening in a modern light-grey clad commercial building, seen in three-quarter view: a curtain of slim curved interlocking steel slats in matte anthracite between deep matching guide channels, a flat reinforced bottom bar on the concrete apron and a slim rectangular hood above, in soft late-afternoon lightRolling Shutters

01Overview

About Windproof / Storm-Resistant Rolling Shutter

Wind does not load a shutter evenly, and it does not fail one politely. A curtain that is not retained properly leaves its guides, and once that happens the opening is gone and so, often, is what was behind it. A wind-rated shutter is about retention and anchoring at least as much as it is about curtain thickness.

03Variants

Available configurations

The same product, built for a different job. Where a specification depends on opening dimensions, selected profile, operating duty or site conditions, the final configuration is confirmed during technical assessment.

  • Windproof standard

Reinforced interlocking curtain in the 1.0 or 1.2 mm class with a wind-resistant guide, wind locks, end locks and a reinforced bottom bar.

  • Windproof heavy duty

1.2 mm class or engineered heavier profile with a reinforced guide, enhanced end locking, a wind-lock system and a heavy-duty shaft.

  • Storm-resistant

Project-engineered curtain with reinforced guides, wind locks, storm anchoring, structural fixing and an appropriately sized shaft and drive.

Windproof / Storm-Resistant Rolling Shutter in detail

  • Macro view of the windproof shutter curtain: slim curved interlocking galvanised steel slats in matte anthracite powder coat, the rolled interlock joint between each slat and a flush steel end lock at the slat end
  • Close-up at the jamb of the windproof shutter: the deep anthracite wind-resistant guide channel anchor-bolted to the concrete reveal, the curved slats running into it, flat wind-lock plates riveted flush to the slat ends and small rivet end locks on the slats between
  • Floor-level close-up of the windproof shutter's reinforced flat-fronted anthracite bottom bar with its black rubber floor seal on a pale concrete threshold, the lowest curved slats above it and the bar running into the guide channel at the jamb, rain-wet concrete outside
  • The head of the windproof shutter seen from inside with the hood removed: the anthracite curtain coiled on a heavy steel shaft carried on steel end plates bolted to the structure, with a compact geared drive and its manual override chain at one end
  • A windproof rolling shutter closed on the exposed loading elevation of a modern grey-clad logistics building under a moving overcast sky, light rain on the concrete apron and wind-bent grasses at its edge, the anthracite curtain, guides and hood standing calm and stable

FAQ

Questions we are actually asked

What wind speed is it rated to?
We do not publish a wind speed, and we would be sceptical of anyone who does without naming the test. Wind performance depends on the site wind load, the opening dimensions, the guide and anchoring arrangement and the selected configuration. Give us the project wind load and we will engineer to it.
What actually makes a shutter windproof?
Retention. Wind locks and end locks keeping the curtain in a wind-resistant guide, a reinforced bottom bar, and anchoring sized for the load path. A thicker curtain on its own does not solve it, because the failure is the curtain leaving the guide.
Can we upgrade our existing shutters instead?
Where the shutter is suitable, yes. The wind configuration can be applied to MS, GI, Galvalume and industrial shutters, which is often the sensible answer when only some openings on a building are exposed.
Is it storm-proof?
We will not use that word. It is engineered for high-wind and storm-prone environments according to project-specific wind-load requirements, and its performance is defined by the configuration and the anchoring rather than by a claim.
What sizes is the Windproof / Storm-Resistant Rolling Shutter available in?
It is made to the opening rather than supplied in fixed sizes. Send us the clear width and height along with the headroom and side room available, and we will confirm what the configuration supports.
Can it be motorised, and can an existing shutter be motorised?
Yes to both, where the curtain and barrel suit it. Motor selection follows curtain weight, opening size, barrel diameter and how often the shutter runs, so it is calculated for the opening rather than taken from a product line.
What happens during a power failure?
Every powered shutter is supplied with a manual override, by hand chain, crank or release depending on the configuration. It is part of the specification rather than an accessory.
What do you need from us to quote?
Clear opening width and height, the headroom and side room, roughly how many times a day it will be used, whether it is internal or external, and the finish you want. That is usually enough for a configuration and a price.
