Automatic Gates/Sliding Gates

Telescopic Sliding Gates

Full opening width on a site with only half the side-run.

A dark grey telescopic sliding gate part open across a commercial entrance, three nested leaves each running on its own bogie along a floor track so the gate stacks into a shorter run than its openingAutomatic Gates

Key specifications

Side-run needed

Leaves
Two or three, nesting
Opening time
Shorter than an equivalent single leaf
Specification

* Final specification depends on door dimensions, configuration, operating environment and project requirements.

01Overview

About Telescopic Sliding Gates

A telescopic gate solves a specific site constraint: the opening is wide, but there is nowhere near enough clear boundary alongside it for a single sliding leaf to retract into. Two or three leaves run on parallel tracks and nest inside one another, so the retracted stack is a fraction of the open width.

03Variants

Available configurations

The same product, built for a different job. Where a specification depends on opening dimensions, selected profile, operating duty or site conditions, the final configuration is confirmed during technical assessment.

  • Two-leaf nesting

The usual arrangement. Halves the required side-run compared with a single leaf of the same opening width.

  • Three-leaf nesting

For very wide openings on very short boundaries, at the cost of a more involved drive and guidance arrangement.

Telescopic Sliding Gates in detail

  • A three-leaf telescopic sliding gate seen from the apron at a three-quarter angle, half open with the anthracite leaves nested side by side on their parallel tracks, the operator at the wall end and the posts in view
  • Close-up of the three overlapping leaves of a telescopic sliding gate: anthracite flat-panel leaves side by side on parallel tracks with their frame stiles stepped one behind another and the wheel carriages beneath
  • Ground-level close-up of a telescopic gate's three parallel rails in the flush track channel, each leaf's black wheel carriage running on its own rail
  • The automatic operator of a telescopic sliding gate: a compact grey gear-motor housing on its concrete plinth against the leading leaf, the rack on the leaf's bottom rail running behind it, manual release cover on the front, tracks passing beneath
  • A telescopic sliding gate fully closed across a wide office entrance seen from the road: three anthracite leaves extended end to end between posts with beacons, the operator at the wall and the glass-fronted building behind

Specification, features and ordering

Technical data is shown first; features, applications, compatibility, installation, safety, ordering and downloads are a click away.

Dimensions5 fields
Maximum clear opening
Up to 18,000 mm

A design envelope rather than a combination: no single telescopic configuration reaches the maximum opening, leaf size and weight at once.

Maximum leaf width
Up to 9,000 mm per telescopic leaf
Maximum leaf height
Up to 2,500 mm
Maximum leaf weight
Up to 1,500 kg per leaf

With the operator, this is what sizes the drive.

Side-run or swing room required
Approximately 50–60% of the clear opening, depending on the telescopic configuration
Cycle performance3 fields
Travel speed
Up to 10 m/min
Opening time for full travel
Application dependent

Set by the clear opening, the number of leaves, the leaf weight, the operator configuration and its acceleration and deceleration, so no single figure covers every installation.

FAQ

Questions we are actually asked

How much space is needed beside a sliding gate?
A single leaf needs roughly its own width of clear boundary to retract into, plus the operator. Where that does not exist, a telescopic arrangement halves it and a swing or retractable gate may suit better.
Tracked or cantilever?
Cantilever where the driveway must stay clear for drainage, silt or heavy loading. Tracked where the approach is level and well drained and the leaf is long and heavy.
What happens if the power fails?
A key-operated manual release disengages the drive so the leaf can be moved by hand. Battery backup can be specified where the entrance must keep operating.
How is the gate stopped from closing on a vehicle?
Photocells across the opening, a safety edge on the leading edge, obstruction detection in the operator, and ground loops that confirm the vehicle has cleared before closing.
