High Speed Doors/Fold-Up High Speed Doors

High Speed Fold-Up Door

A rapid vertical-folding industrial door for larger openings and high-frequency vehicle and material movement.

A royal-blue high speed fold-up door half open on the loading opening of a light-grey clad factory: the lower curtain with its wind-bar ridges, two black lifting straps and a row of three vision windows spanning the full width between the black guide columns, the raised half gathered into a full-width stack of horizontal folds beneath the plain stainless hood, warehouse pallets visible below the bottom bar, a wall control station with red emergency stop beside the guide and yellow-and-black bollards on the concrete apronHigh Speed Doors

01Overview

About High Speed Fold-Up Door

A fold-up door gathers its curtain into horizontal folds as it opens rather than winding it onto a drum. That single difference is why the type exists: a folded stack sits shallower above the opening than a roll of the same span, and it lets a fabric door reach heights a drum would struggle with. Published maximum height is 8,000 mm, against 5,000 mm for the roll-up configuration.

03Variants

Available configurations

The same product, built for a different job. Where a specification depends on opening dimensions, selected profile, operating duty or site conditions, the final configuration is confirmed during technical assessment.

  • Internal mounting

For large internal openings between halls and bays, where the curtain is working against dust, noise and traffic separation rather than weather.

  • External mounting

For openings in an external elevation, with the wind resistance configuration selected against the exposure.

  • Class 3 wind configuration

The higher of the two published wind resistance configurations, for elevations where a Class 2 assembly is not enough.

High Speed Fold-Up Door in detail

  • A high speed fold-up door on an external factory entrance seen from a three-quarter angle, closed: blue reinforced PVC curtain with horizontal wind-bar ridges, two black lifting straps and a row of three vision windows, under a plain stainless hood between black steel guides, with control box and yellow-and-black bollards
  • Close-up of the blue reinforced PVC curtain of a high speed fold-up door: the rounded ridge of a wind-bar pocket, a black woven lifting strap crossing it, the welded edge of a clear vision window and the fabric's woven scrim texture
  • Head of an open high speed fold-up door seen from below: the blue curtain gathered into a stack of horizontal folds around its wind bars under the stainless hood, the two black lifting straps taut down the face of the stack, the bottom bar with its safety edge lowest, wind-bar end rollers in the black side guides
  • Bottom corner of a closed high speed fold-up door: the bottom bar in the lowest curtain pocket with its black rubber safety edge on the concrete, a wind-bar ridge and lifting strap above, and the foot of the black steel guide column bolted to the plinth where the curtain edge enters the guide
  • Top corner of a high speed fold-up door: the plain stainless hood with the geared electric drive motor on the strap drum shaft and its conduit, the blue curtain with wind-bar ridges and a lifting strap running up into the hood beside the black guide column

FAQ

Questions we are actually asked

When is a fold-up door the right choice over a roll-up?
Two situations. When the opening is taller than the roll-up range, since this configuration is published to 8,000 mm against 5,000 mm. And when the lintel detail cannot accommodate a drum, because a folded stack is shallower for the same span.
What opening sizes are possible?
Up to 5,000 mm wide and up to 8,000 mm high, both subject to configuration. A door at the top of the height range is engineered for that height rather than simply built taller.
How fast does it operate?
0.8–2.5 m/s opening and closing, subject to configuration. Unlike most rapid door types it is published at the same range in both directions.
Does it work on an exposed external elevation?
Yes. Wind resistance is published as an EN 12424 Class 2 or Class 3 configuration, chosen against the exposure of the elevation. EN 12424 is the test method that defines those classes; naming it describes what the field means rather than claiming a certificate.
Which motor rating will our opening need?
One of 0.75, 1.1 or 1.5 kW. It is selected against the leaf size and the duty the opening imposes, which is why we ask for cycle count before quoting rather than after.
What safety systems are fitted?
Photoelectric protection and a safety edge, with a manual crank for emergency opening. Activation is by radar, push button or infrared.
What information do you need to quote?
Clear width and height of the opening, the headroom and side room available, roughly how many cycles a day it will take, whether it is internal or external, and what the two sides of the opening have to keep different from each other. Five answers and a photograph are usually enough for a configuration and a price.
