High Speed Doors/Spiral High Speed Doors

High Speed Spiral Door

A high speed rigid industrial door on a spiral-guided system, for demanding internal and external openings.

A silver high speed spiral door lowered to about two-thirds across the loading opening of a light-grey clad factory, its rigid aluminium panels alternating solid and glazed rows between silver guide columns beneath a plain brushed stainless hood, the lit warehouse showing beneath the black safety edge, a wall control station with display and red emergency stop beside the guide and yellow-and-black bollards on the concrete apronHigh Speed Doors

01Overview

About High Speed Spiral Door

A spiral door answers a specific problem: an opening that needs a rigid, insulated leaf but cannot accept the cycle time that usually comes with one. The panels are guided into a spiral above the opening rather than stacked or wound, so the leaf never rests on itself. Nothing rubs, and the door can run at up to 2.5 m/s — flexible-door speed from a rigid door.

03Variants

Available configurations

The same product, built for a different job. Where a specification depends on opening dimensions, selected profile, operating duty or site conditions, the final configuration is confirmed during technical assessment.

  • Insulated panel configuration

PU or thermal insulation configuration in the panel, selected against the thermal requirement of the opening.

  • Transparent panel configuration

Transparent panel sections in the leaf, so a driver sees the far side of the opening before the door has finished travelling.

High Speed Spiral Door in detail

  • A high speed spiral door on an external factory entrance seen from a three-quarter angle, closed: silver anodised aluminium panels alternating with full-width glazed rows, stainless hood with the spiral end plate at its right, guide columns, control box and yellow-and-black bollards
  • Close-up of the leaf of a high speed spiral door: rigid silver anodised aluminium panels alternating with clear glazed panels in slim silver frames, hinged along fine joint lines with black seals
  • Side of the head of a high speed spiral door with the hood end cover removed: the round steel side plate with its machined spiral groove, the panel-end rollers running in the outer turn of the track and the leaf entering from the guide column below
  • Bottom corner of a closed high speed spiral door: the leading aluminium panel with its black rubber safety edge on the concrete, a glazed panel above, and the foot of the guide column bolted to the plinth with its black seal

FAQ

Questions we are actually asked

What is a spiral door and how is it different?
The rigid leaf is guided into a spiral above the opening instead of being stacked or wound, so the panels never rest on one another. That is what lets a rigid insulated door run at up to 2.5 m/s without wearing its own panel faces.
Where is it suitable?
External factory entrances, warehouses, logistics facilities, industrial buildings, high-traffic entrances and temperature-controlled areas — openings that need a rigid, insulated leaf and cannot afford a slow one.
What opening sizes are possible?
Up to 5,000–6,000 mm wide and up to 5,000–6,000 mm high, subject to configuration. As with any rigid high speed door the achievable size and the achievable speed are related, so both are confirmed together for your opening.
What wind loading can it take?
Wind resistance is configuration dependent and engineered for the applicable wind conditions. We do not publish a single class, because a spiral door is engineered around its opening and one figure would misrepresent every other installation.
How well does it insulate?
The leaf is an insulated rigid aluminium panel of approximately 40–43 mm with a PU or thermal insulation configuration. Thermal performance itself is configuration dependent — tell us the differential the opening has to hold and we will confirm the configuration that meets it.
What safety systems are fitted?
A light curtain, photocells and a safety edge, with a manual release for operation during a power failure. A rigid leaf makes presence detection more important rather than less, which is why the light curtain is part of the specification.
Can it integrate with site access control?
Yes. The drive is frequency-controlled and takes activation from radar, a photocell, a loop detector or a push button, and a release signal from an access control system on a volt-free contact.
What information do you need to quote?
Clear width and height of the opening, the headroom and side room available, roughly how many cycles a day it will take, whether it is internal or external, and what the two sides of the opening have to keep different from each other. Five answers and a photograph are usually enough for a configuration and a price.
