01Overview

About Dock Levellers

A dock leveller is a hinged platform recessed into the dock edge. Raised and lowered hydraulically, it drops a lip onto the vehicle bed and forms a continuous, load-bearing ramp from the warehouse floor into the trailer.

03Variants

Available configurations

The same product, built for a different job. Where a specification depends on opening dimensions, selected profile, operating duty or site conditions, the final configuration is confirmed during technical assessment.

  • Swing lip

The lip hinges out and lowers onto the vehicle bed. The standard arrangement where vehicles dock consistently.

  • Telescopic lip

The lip extends horizontally, giving longer reach and more accurate placement on a mixed or awkwardly docked fleet.

Dock Levellers in detail

  • Seen from inside a trailer looking back to the dock: the swing lip of a hydraulic dock leveller folded down and resting on the trailer floor, its hinge line running the full width, the chequer-plate deck rising behind it to the warehouse floor between the black dock bumpers
  • A hydraulic dock leveller raised to its full height seen from the pit front: the underside stiffening ribs of the chequer-plate deck, the single lift cylinder with its hoses, the hydraulic power pack, the black pit frame and rear hinge, and the dock bumpers either side
  • From the warehouse floor looking out through an open loading bay: the dock leveller deck sloping gently down with its lip on the floor of a plain white trailer, forming one continuous ramp, with a hand pallet truck parked to the side and the sectional door raised above
  • The dock leveller control station on the wall beside the bay: a light-grey box with a green raise button, red mushroom emergency stop and key switch, its conduit running down to the pit, with the deck stored level with the warehouse floor and the open bay beyond
  • A row of loading bays on a distribution building seen from the yard: the nearest bay open with the dock leveller deck at the dock edge in its stored position, black rubber bumpers, a black dock shelter around the opening, the sectional door raised and yellow wheel guides on the apron

FAQ

Questions we are actually asked

What capacity dock leveller do I need?
It is set by the axle load of the heaviest handling equipment crossing the deck, plus its load — not the gross vehicle weight. EN 1398 rates levellers on that basis.
What pit size is required?
It follows the platform selected. Our published configurations use pit lengths of 2000 or 2500 mm, widths of 1880, 2050 or 2180 mm and depths of 515 or 615 mm, all to ±2 mm. Drawings are issued before the pit is formed.
Can one leveller serve both vans and trailers?
Within its working range, yes. Ours work both above and below dock level — published as 725–750 mm above and 225–380 mm below — which is what allows a mixed fleet at one bay.
Does it work in a cold store?
The published operating range is -35 °C to +50 °C, which covers cold chain bays.
